It is important that regulation doesn’t become overly expensive resulting in costs being passed on to landlords and tenants. We want regulation to be simple and cost effective but robust enough to deter poor behaviour and help improve professionalism across the industry. Take the poll and share your ideas around how you think regulation can help meet these important objectives.
What could regulation look like?
Regulation could require property managers to:

Management
✓ Have ongoing education obligations, to ensure that they stay up-to-date with law changes
✓ Be required to have Police or background checks before operating
✓ Hold tenant and landlord funds in a trust account

✓ Adhere to a mandatory Code of Conduct or set of standards to keep them accountable
✓ Be subject to fines or sanctions if they don’t follow the Code of Conduct or standards
